FamilyColab text alerts
FamilyColab uses text messaging for low-volume, transactional family alerts. This page explains who can subscribe, what messages are sent, and shows the exact opt-in form and disclosure used on the website.

Program summary
FamilyColab text alerts are low-volume, transactional messages about a family's health, wellbeing, meal plans, children's requests and daily schedule. Every text is one of the following:
- Family Health alerts: a text to opted-in parents or guardians when a health reading logged for someone in the family is outside the range the family set.
- Meal approval texts: a text with a link to an opted-in parent when another parent sends meals from the family meal plan for them to approve.
- Approval request texts: a text with a link to an opted-in parent, who does not have the iPhone app, when their child asks for something that needs a parent's OK, such as taking money out of their family bank account.
- Reminder texts: a text with a link to an opted-in parent, who does not have the iPhone app, before an event on the family calendar (at the time they choose: 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour or 1 day before), a morning note on school days with what to bring, the pickup time and what is on the calendar today, and a heads-up when a family member's birthday is 7 or 3 days away.
- Care Check check-ins: a scheduled text asking an older family member to reply OK so their family knows they are fine, with up to two reminders if there is no reply.
- Care Check alerts: a text to that person's care contacts when a check-in is missed, and an all-clear when they reply.
- Account texts: the one-time request to agree to Care Check texts, and replies to STOP, START and HELP.
FamilyColab does not use this SMS program for general marketing or promotional blasts.
Who can subscribe
Family Health alerts, meal approval texts, approval request texts and reminder texts are for parents or guardians who manage a FamilyColab family account. Care Check texts are for an adult family member being checked on and the adults they list as care contacts. Child profiles never receive texts.
Subscription is optional. Consent to receive text messages is not a condition of purchase or use of FamilyColab.
Website opt-in
The website opt-in flow used for FamilyColab Family Health alerts, meal approval texts, approval request texts and reminder texts works as follows:
- A parent or guardian signs in to FamilyColab and opens the SMS Alerts section of their profile page.
- The user types a mobile number into the text alerts field on that card.
- The user checks any of 4 dedicated consent boxes, one each for FamilyColab Family Health alerts, meal approval texts, approval request texts and reminder texts, then selects Save SMS alerts. Every box starts unchecked, and each covers only its own texts.
- FamilyColab records the consent event with the mobile number, timestamp, disclosure version, and collection source before any alerts are sent.
Care Check opt-in by text
Care Check texts go to the person being checked on and their care contacts, who may not have an account. They agree from their own phone:
- A family organizer adds a relative, or a care contact for that relative, to FamilyColab Care Check with their mobile number.
- That number receives exactly one text: "FamilyColab Care Check [organizer] would like to send [name] check-in texts so family knows you're okay. Reply YES to agree. Msg frequency varies. Msg & data rates may apply. Terms: familycolab.com/sms-terms Reply HELP for help, STOP to decline."
- Nothing else is sent to that number unless the person replies YES from their own phone.
- Replying STOP at any time withdraws permission, and a family organizer cannot turn it back on from the app.

Choose which texts you want: Family Health alerts about readings that need attention, meal approval texts when another parent sends meals for you to approve, approval request texts when your child asks for something that needs your OK, and reminder texts before calendar events, on school mornings and before birthdays.

Save SMS alertsMessage frequency and subscriber controls
- Message frequency varies: usually one Care Check text per scheduled check-in, plus occasional alerts. Meal approval texts are at most one per batch of meals sent, and no more than five a day. Approval request texts are at most one per child every 30 minutes, no more than five a day, and never during the parent's quiet hours. Reminder texts are no more than five a day, never during the parent's quiet hours, and each kind can be switched off or retimed in the parent's notification settings.
